About Course
In this course, you will build an understanding of your responsibilities when providing Bowel Care. You will learn what this type of support includes and how to recognise the differences between a healthy, functioning digestive system and one that is not working properly. We will begin by looking at what makes an effective bowel care plan and the requirements set out by the NDIS. From there, we will explore different bowel care strategies and the role you play as a disability support worker. Finally, we will cover how to respond to risks, incidents, and urgent situations related to bowel care.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
1. Describe what Bowel Care involves and identify the difference between functional and dysfunctional digestive systems
2. Outline the key features of a well-structured bowel care plan, including the NDIS guidelines for authorising and delivering Bowel Care
3. Demonstrate an understanding of bowel care interventions and how to respond to risks, incidents, and emergencies
4. Explain your responsibilities as a disability support professional when delivering Bowel Care
