About Course
This comprehensive course will guide you through the essentials of positive behaviour support. You will explore the ABC model of positive behaviour support, learn about both responsive and reactive strategies, and discover how these can effectively reduce behaviours of concern. The course will also cover restrictive practices, providing an understanding of the circumstances and authority under which they are implemented.
Furthermore, you will gain insight into the historical approaches to ‘behaviours of concern’ in Australia over the last 60 years. You will develop a deep understanding of behaviour itself, including the five stages of behaviour escalation.
Upon completing this course, you will be able to:
1. Define “challenging behaviour” and “behaviours of concern.”
2. Discuss the history of “behaviours of concern” in Australia.
3. Understand behaviour comprehensively, including its underlying factors and the five stages of behaviour escalation.
4. Apply the ABC model of positive behaviour support.
5. Utilize both responsive and reactive strategies in your practice.
6. Identify what restrictive practices are, why they are used, and under what circumstances they are approved.
