About Course
In this course, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of Support Coordination—what it is, how it has evolved with the introduction of the NDIS, and who is eligible to access it as part of their plan. You’ll explore the different levels of Support Coordination, learn about the key responsibilities of a Support Coordinator, and discover how they help build the capacity of participants to understand, implement, and manage their NDIS supports.
We will examine the personal qualities and professional backgrounds that make an effective Support Coordinator, and highlight the five core activities they use to empower participants. You’ll also be introduced to common challenges encountered in the role, as well as key differences between Support Coordination, Case Management, and Disability Advocacy.
Additionally, the course will delve into the importance of consent—why it’s needed, how it’s obtained, and how it relates to accessing a participant’s plan. You’ll gain insight into the planning process, including how participant goals influence plan funding and support categories. We’ll also explore how travel supports are funded through the NDIS, both for participants and service providers.
A critical part of this course includes understanding the three core phases of Support Coordination:
– Understanding the participant and their plan,
– Taking action to connect them with services, and
– Monitoring progress to ensure supports are being used effectively.
Finally, you’ll learn about the ethical responsibilities Support Coordinators must uphold, including how to manage conflicts of interest and ensure quality and safeguarding standards are maintained at all times.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
1. Define Support Coordination and identify the essential experiences and attributes of effective Support Coordinators
2. Understand who is eligible for Support Coordination funding and how eligibility is assessed
3. Describe the key responsibilities and day-to-day activities of a Support Coordinator
4. Recognize and address common misconceptions and challenges associated with the role
5. Understand consent requirements for accessing NDIS plan information and how to properly obtain it
6. Interpret a participant’s NDIS plan, link their personal goals to the supports included, and understand how funding is structured
7. Explain how travel supports are funded and what providers can claim under a participant’s plan
8. Apply the three phases of Support Coordination—Understand, Action, and Monitor—to effectively implement and manage a participant’s NDIS plan
